Dear Peter,
It was with much sadness that I heard of Shirley’s passing. I worked at Northwestern in the O. R. after moving from Montreal as a young nurse with only one year experience. Shirley was the most amazing OR manager I have ever worked with to this day!!! She was a mentor, teacher and strong advocate for her staff. I learned from Shirley, that to be a great manager the one trait you must possess is”Fairness”….. she was fair and true in all and looked to make us better with her example. I have used her example so many times over my 50 years in nursing reminding myself and others of her example. To the best nurse manager in my career, rest gently dear Shirley. So many of us loved you!
