To the Fitzgerald families:
John and Josephine were such good friends of Harry and I over our years living in Sheet Harbour. We had so many fun
times and memories it would be hard to pick one but they were all special.
John had a long life and like the rest of us learned how to live on without the love of his life. He and your Mom raised a
wonderful family and it sure showed through when he was alone and needed his family the most, you can hold your heads
high for the love and care you've shown your Dad over his lifetime but more importantly his last years of life.
My thoughts and prayers are with you all during this difficult time, unfortunately I'm unable to attend the celebration of life due
to my mobility.
Love
Audrey Verge

To the Fitzgerald family:
What can you say about a man who lived his life his way, except well done John.I have so many
memories of the years I knew John but the constant remained,he was a straight shooter with no BS.
He was a great provider, hard worker, very talented with his knowledge of building things and certainly
a good man to lead others in the work field. A card shark at least he thought and always until her death
never walked alone. He told me one time I don't think I could make it alone without Jo,well he did as difficult
as it was. This was accomplished by the self-less hours of love, respect and time spent by his family, who made
sure he was hardly ever alone long.
I will miss those great stories and old memories only a person of 101 could know.
My thoughts and prayers are with you all during this sad but peaceful ending to John's legacy. RIP my friend.

My deepest sympathy to the Fitzgerald family. I had the privilege of spending time with John while he was at Twin Oaks. Meeting many of his friends and family. John was truly a gentleman and a gentle man. He and Fraser shared many a laugh and a few tears. I used to tease them the nurses drew straws to see who had to look after them.

The Dewis Family send our heartfelt condolences to all of John’s family. My father Fraser, had the honour and pleasure of being roommates with John at Twin Oaks Hospital while awaiting nursing home placement. Dad spoke so fondly of his “102-year old roommate” so many times over the past few months. He was a light in a dark time. They discussed the lobster prices on the daily. I called one day and John answered my Dad’s phone and we had a great chat while he “untangled my dad from the phone cords. “
My father was placed in a nursing home 2 weeks ago and upon discharge from Twin Oaks he said he had a “true friend” and asked if there was any way John could come with him. He has been missing him since. I can’t bear to share this sad news quite yet.
In closing, I never had the honour of meeting John as I live in BC, but I feel like I knew him. In a few short months he was able to make such an incredible impact on my father’s life. He was obviously a very special man.

On behalf of the Hallett family, I would like to express our heartfelt condolences to the entire Fitzgerald family. Although we’ve only known John for a paltry 50 years, we feel he and his family have been part of our lives since the beginning of time. Dad and John’s long-time employment together at DOT/Coast Guard brought us countless laughs and stories that will carry on forever. Whenever my parents visited, they would leave the Musquodoboit with big smiles and renewed memories. John will be missed but our memories will keep him close to our hearts.

What a wonderful life for such a wonderful man. Johnny Fitz as he has always been affectionately referred to in our family visited our house often when we lived at home. The house next to ours was always known to us as "John Fitz's" and I believe that may have been where Johnny was born. He was great story teller and I have fond memories of listening to him, my grandfather and my dad sharing stories in our kitchen. Johnny had a great talent at woodworking. He built the replica of the Yarmouth Light that stood on our front lawn for so many years. When our brother Steve moved to Ostrea Lake, he and Johnny spent a lot of time together. I'm sure that Johnny passed on some of his knowledge and love for woodworking to Steve. We lost Steve last year and I'm sure that Johnny and Steve are sharing stories once again. Our deepest condolences to your family. These are important times to have family near. You are all in our thoughts and prayers.
