Obituary of Marie Susan Scrivens
Scrivens, Marie Susan- 96 West Quoddy, passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side Tuesday May 28, 2019 in Harbourview Lodge, Sheet Harbour. Born in Tangier January 1, 1923 she was a daughter of the late Patrick & Jessie (Monk) Walsh. Marie was postmistress, operating the local post office with her husband in their home for many years. In her later years she worked at the Marquis of Port Dufferin. She was a devoted Catholic and had the great fortune of meeting the Pope in Rome. She was a lifetime member of the CWL, a member of the Legion Auxiliary for many years, and a member of the New Horizons Seniors Club. Marie enjoyed crib, playing cards, quilting, knitting, berry picking, baking, and nobody would leave her kitchen hungry. She also enjoyed going back to the family property camping and swimming when the sisters would get together. Survived by children Gary (Shirley), West Quoddy, Rose, Watt Section, Bertha (George Doucette), Digby, Edna, Timberlea, daughter in-law Donna Scrivens, 8 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, 4 great great grandchildren, sisters; Blanche Ormiston, Medicine Hat, Isabel Chisholm, Sheet Harbour, brother Ron (Jean) Walsh, Dartmouth. Predeceased by husband Cyril, son Alan, sisters; Elva Cruikshank, Kathleen Mullen, Mabel Currie, Maude Petterson, brothers; Bill, Victor, Maurice and George. Visitation will be held Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 with prayers at 7:30p.m. all in DS Crowell & Son Funeral Home 22558 Highway 7, Sheet Harbour. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday June 1 at 11:00a.m. in St. Peters Roman Catholic Church, Sheet Harbour, Archbishop Martin Currie officiating, assisted by Father Michael Walsh. Burial in the Moser River Cemetery. Reception to follow in the Sheet Harbour Legion. Family flowers only, donations may be made to Harbourview Lodge Recreation Department or charity of your choice. My father the late Duncan S. Crowell purchased the business on August 31, 1970 from the late Parker Hamilton. Dad named it Eastern Memorial Funeral Home until a few years later when he changed the name to DS Crowell Funeral Home.
