Obituary of Bernadette Elena Rutledge

Rutledge, Bernadette Elena ( Swallow)- 62, Dartmouth. It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Bernadette on Thursday, November 29, 2018 in Eastern Shore Memorial Hospital, Sheet Harbour. Bernadette was born in Bridgewater , January 15, 1956 to Veronica (Smith) of Falkland Ridge, N.S. who was a war bride from Manchester, England, and the late Vernon Swallow. She attended Springfield Consolidated School and was a member of St. Bridget Catholic Church. After graduating from New Germany Rural High School she moved to Halifax and attained a Bachelor of Arts from Mount Saint Vincent University. She then worked for the Attorney General in Alberta. Bernadette later attended McGill University in Montreal to study Library Science. She spent seven years working as a film librarian in Vancouver and Toronto. After returning to Halifax in 1986 she attained a business diploma  and worked mostly as a receptionist. On August 29, 1989 she married the love of her life, Kevin Rutledge, and they have resided in Dartmouth. She will be lovingly remembered and deeply missed by her mother, Veronica (97), Middleton, N.S; husband Kevin; sister Deloras (Goncoyo) Torers, Ottawa; brothers, Greg (Avis), Surrey, B.C, Adrian (Susan), Chester; several  brothers and  sisters in laws, nieces and nephews. Also her fur babies, Gracie, Mister and Roxie. Visitation will be held Monday, December 3, 6-8 PM in D.S. Crowell & Son Funeral Home, 22558 Highway 7, Sheet Harbour. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 am Tuesday, December 4 in St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church, Sheet Harbour Father Fabian officiating. Burial in the church cemetery. Reception to follow in St. Peter’s Church Hall.  The family would like to thank all those who helped Bernadette on her journey, VON, Home Care, doctors, nurses and especially Dr. Antony and the nursing staff of Eastern Shore Memorial Hospital.
