Roderick Wilson Hilchey
Age 84 of Spry Bay, NS, passed away peacefully at the Ocean View Continuing Care Center on April 21, 2024. He was the son of the late Elva (Connor) Hilchey and Lewis Hilchey. He had a career in trucking, heavy equipment, carpentry, and enjoyed many hours in retirement in his garage at his handyman pursuits. He was first and foremost a dedicated husband, father, grandfather (gampy), and family man. He was strong of will, full of heart, loving, loyal, respectful, with a quiet keen awareness of life and its value. His mind was sharp till the end as it was all his life; he could clearly recite and inform his neighbours of places and events that had occurred many decades ago. He is survived by his sons Darren (Mary) Hilchey of Fall River, Blaine Hilchey (Rachelle) of Halifax, granddaughter Melissa Hilchey (Jason), grandson Zachary Hilchey, sister Joy Gerrard of Spry Harbour, brother Randall (Cathy) of Windsor, sister in laws Joan Hilchey of Dartmouth, Mary Hilchey of Halifax, several nieces and nephews, and his dog Charlie. Roderick is predeceased by his eternal love, his wife of 56 years Sheila, his brothers Ellis and Leonard, and brother in law Morris. As per his wishes, no visitation or service will be held. A Celebration of Life will occur at a later date. Many thanks to all the Ocean View staff, in particular Adeola, for all the loving care they gave over the past year. Donations in memory of Roderick can be made to the Ocean View Continuing Care Center.
