Stuart, Doreen Hannah, 90, Port Dufferin- It is with sadness that we announce the loss of our dear sweet mother, Nannie and great-nannie who passed away peacefully December 11, 2023 in Harbourview Lodge surrounded by her family. She was born in Port Dufferin July 14, 1933 to the late Arthur & Gladys (Rodgers) Barkhouse. Later in life she moved to the city and worked at Moirs before marrying her husband of 60 years Gerald. They returned to Port Dufferin in 1974 to raise their family. She enjoyed game shows, knitting, but most of all cooking and baking. Christmas was her favourite time of the year because she loved to give to others. Her greatest passion was her family and she enjoyed every second she spent with them. Mom saw good in everyone, would give anyone the shirt off her back if they needed it and had a heart of pure gold. Doreen is survived by her children; Kathy (Phillip), Wayne (Rhonda), Elizabeth, granddaughters; Morgan (Trev), Melissa (Brandon) and great-grandson Edwin, who always made her smile, sisters; Jean Behie and Catherine Smiley. Predeceased by husband Gerald, brothers; Ken, John, Teddy and sister Joyce. Special thanks to Dr. MacDonald, the staff at Harbourview Lodge, the staff at ESMH, and all the support workers at Northwood Homecare for their support, care and compassion. To her sister-in-law Helen for the many hours she spent with her while she was in the hospital, also to DS Crowell & Son Funeral Home, Sheet Harbour. Cremation has taken place, no visitation or funeral by request. A burial for Doreen & Gerald will be held at a later date. Donations in her memory may be made to Harbourview Lodge, Sheet Harbour.
