Please share a memory of Douglas to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Currie, Douglas Ronald- Sheet Harbour, it is with heavy hearts that we, the family announce the passing of our brother Douglas Ronald Currie on October 7, 2023 at the age of 76. Born in Sheet Harbour on April 3, 1947, he was the son of the late Everett and Mabel (Walsh) Currie. As a teenager he left school and went to work in the forest industry caring for horses and animals that he dearly loved. Doug was never without work and he held a variety of jobs throughout the years. For several years he did seasonal work with the Department of Fisheries. After upgrading his education, he worked for Maritime Warehousing and Storage. This was followed by security work in several places especially at the Beaver Dam Gold Mines. For the last years of his working career, he held the position which he loved, with great pride in telling the people that he was the guy whom delivered the mail to the rural areas of Sheet Harbour. Doug was a very kind man with a big heart who was always willing to do anything for anyone who asked or needed his help. He was a faithful member of St. Peters Roman Catholic Church, attended Mass regularly and when there was no Mass at the church, he watched on television. The family would like to thank all those who were kind and caring to Doug in his retirement years. He is survived by sisters; Eileen Daye and Isabel Gay, brothers; Bishop Martin, Gerald (Lynn), Wayne (Anne), James (Paulette), Francis (Gisela) and many nieces and nephews, grand nieces and nephews and cousins who he loved dearly and supported in many ways. Doug was predeceased by brothers in-law Vincent Daye and Gordon Gay.
