Obituary of Lois Bernice Barkhouse
BARKHOUSE Lois Bernice-87 Sheet Harbour passed away Tuesday, September 18, 2018 in QEII Infirmary Site. Born May 29, 1931 in Spry Bay, she was the daughter of the late Charles & Lavenia (Hawes) Josey. Lois starting working at Moir’s Chocolate Factory for a few years, then after marriage she traveled with her husband to cook for his crew on painting jobs in the province, then in 1978 she operated Lois’s Takeout, she was known to have the best burgers, fish and clams on the Eastern Shore, she retired in 1993. She loved to play bingo, gamble and scratch tickets. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends. Survived by daughters Angela (Greg) Jacquard and Amanda (Gary) Mason both of Lower Sackville. Grandchildren Marsha, Nadine and Melanie Jacquard, Mallory and Dylan Mason, Rodney and Michelle Barkhouse, Reid and Marcy Murphy, Sherri Mailloux, 8 great grandchildren, brother Rodney, many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by husband Ansel, son Reid, grandson Michael MacIssac, sisters, Freda, Edith, Vona, brothers Golden, Charles, Boyd and half-brother Ross Hubley. Cremation has taken place, visitation will be held Friday, Sept. 21 7-9 with prayers at 7:30 in D.S. Crowell and son Funeral home, 22558 Highway 7, Sheet Harbour. Memorial service will be held Saturday, 2:00pm in St. Andrews Anglican Church, Watt Section, Rev. Lorraine Otto officiating, burial in the church cemetery, reception to follow in the Sheet Harbour Lions center. Family flowers only, donations in Lois’ memory may be made to the Halifax Infirmary. A thank you to Sandy DeCoste for being a special friend and her niece Connie Kenney for being there when she was needed. A special thank you to IMCU at the QEII for the excellent care of our mother.

My father the late Duncan S. Crowell purchased the business on August 31, 1970 from the late Parker Hamilton. Dad named it Eastern Memorial Funeral Home until a few years later when he changed the name to DS Crowell Funeral Home.
