Barkhouse, Jean Evelyn- 91 of Truro, It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of our mother Jean on June 17, 2023 at Wynn Park Villa, Truro. Born May 29, 1932 in Necum Teuch N.S. she was the daughter of the late Lester and Florence (Baker) Turner. During Moms teenage years she worked as a cleaner at the Masonic Hall, Sheet Harbour and Eastern Shore Memorial Hospital, Sheet Harbour. Mom met and married our Dad, George Barkhouse and became a stay at home Mom. She raised six children and was our doctor, nurse, cook, cleaner and seamstress. Mom had a great passion for growing African violets. Surviving are her six children; Judy Nickerson, Westville, Georgina (Henry) MacLean, New Glasgow, Deana Morby, Burlington, Ontario, Verna (Grant) Mingo, Truro, Doug, Halifax, Irma (Wayne) Yorke, Alberta, 11 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, sisters; Geraldine Baker, Amherst, Lana (Dale) Allan, Barrie, Ontario, nephews; Derrick Allan, Bernie & Lester Flynn, niece, Colleen Marks, sisters in law; Carmie Fleet and Sally Barkhouse, special cousins; Corinne Ashton and Forrest Moser, childhood friend, Margie Rutledge, Moms good friend at Wynn Park Villa, Stanley Blois, many nieces and nephews from the Barkhouse family. She was predeceased by husband George Barkhouse, sisters; Arlie Murphy, Irma Gwendolyn Turner, grandson, Jason Morby, niece, Dora Porter. Special thanks to Dr. Locke and the staff at Wynn Park Villa, Second North for her care and comfort. No flowers by request. Burial will be held at a later date in St. James Cemetery, Sheet Harbour. who we are:
My father the late Duncan S. Crowell purchased the business on August 31, 1970 from the late Parker Hamilton. Dad named it Eastern Memorial Funeral Home until a few years later when he changed the name to DS Crowell Funeral Home.
