Barkhouse, Franklin Edgar “Teddy” age 83 of Sheet Harbour, passed away on May 1, 2023, peacefully at home with his devoted wife, Helen, of 60 years. Teddy was born in Port Dufferin, the son of the late Arthur and Gladys (Rogers) Barkhouse. Teddy began his work in the grocery business when he was 12 years old in Port Dufferin. He went on to become joint owner of Gammon's Grocery for many years. He left the grocery business in 1988 to become a lobster fisherman, where he spent many happy years on the ocean. He passed on his love of fishing to his son, John, who is carrying on his legacy. He was a member of the Sheet Harbour Lions Club, and Royal Canadian Legion Branch 58 for many years. In his off time, he most enjoyed sitting at a card table with friends, or could be found in a boat on the lake, trout fishing. Family was always first for Teddy, he enjoyed his meals, sitting at the head of the table, enjoying his barbecued bologna, being teased and affectionately known as Papa. He will be missed by all. He is survived by his wife Helen, his only son John (Jennifer), his grandsons Jordan and Jake (Nicole), great granddaughter Novalee; sisters Doreen Stuart, Catherine Smiley and twin sister Jean Behie, brother-in-law Sam Boudreau and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his brothers Ken Barkhouse; John (Betty) Barkhouse, sister Joyce Boudreau and brothers in law Gerald, Carl and Michael. A special thank-you from the family to the caregivers Terri Snow, Trish Riou, Randy Boutilier and Nicole Hubley for their support and care. Cremation has been arranged by D.S Crowell and Son Funeral Home Ltd. Visitation will be held Saturday June 24, 2023 from 2-4p.m. with prayers at 2:30 in DS Crowell & Son Funeral Home 22558 Highway 7, Sheet Harbour. A heartfelt thank-you to Bruce, for being the best neighbour and always being there when needed.
