Obituary of Lena Elizabeth Spears
Please share a memory of Lena to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
The death of Lena Elizabeth Spears (Fancy) occurred suddenly on April 3, 2023 at the Queen’s North Health Complex, in Minto, NB
Lena was born in Marie Joseph, NS on May 4, 1927, to parents Freeman and Hannah Fancy. Lena lived a long and healthy life independently until the last couple of months, when she moved to NB to live with her eldest daughter, Brenda.
Lena and her husband, Herman, ran the family business of Hillside Cabins for many years, where she could be found cleaning and cooking for the many visitors. Years ago, you could find her digging clams and attending Eastern Star meetings as she was a long-time member for many years. She loved to go to local flea markets and bazaars with a table full of her handicrafts, cooking and knitting. Lena always enjoyed a good game of crib and as recently as last month had game of “guts” with her family. She was still knitting work socks and doing Word Searches to keep herself busy right up until the day before she passed.
She is survived by her daughters Brenda, Marlene, Carol (Kenny), Mabel (Kenneth), Christie and only son Dennis (Sandra). She is also survived by special nephew, Merle Fancy. Lena had 12 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren and even three great-great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Lena was predeceased by her loving husband Herman, daughter Beverly, brothers; Irvin and Clyde, sisters; Lillian Mulock and Winnie Davidson. Lena had several special friends in Sheet Harbour that were very dear to her; checked in with her often and engaged in many long phone conversations talking about the local “news”. “Mom” “Nanny” often spoke about the wonderful care that she received from the many homecare workers that visited daily; allowing her to stay in her own apartment as long as she did. The family is sincerely grateful to all of them and also the care she received from the medical staff at the Queens North Health Complex on the morning of her unexpected death.
