Obituary of James Joseph Howe Sr.

With great sorrow and sadness, we the family announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather on Friday, March 31, 2023 at the age of 89 in the Musquodoboit Valley Memorial Hospital in Middle Musquodoboit. Born July 9, 1933, in Sheet Harbour, he was the son of the late Albert and Mary (Paul) Howe. He had several careers during his life time which included the Canadian Armed Forces, CN Railway, taxi and school bus driver as well as several other jobs. His greatest passions were his family, fishing, hunting, boating, playing guitar and singing, operating his CB and Ham radios, his pets, the Legion (former President), Knights of Columbus (4th Degree) and travelling throughout Canada, USA and Europe to attend CB jamborees. Survived by his loving wife of 61 years Florella (Russell); daughter Dawn and son-in-law Ed Gardiner, son James Jr.; Grandchildren Jay (Britt Sack), Janay (Carl Boutilier), Nick and Tyler; Great Grandchildren Malikhi and Jayda Mae; Sisters Marlene (Al) and Cathy: and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins; Brother and Sisters-in-laws. Pre-deceased by Parents Albert and Mary, sisters Ann, Flossie, Flo, Pauline, Dorothy, Roxie, Blanche and Laverne; Brothers Doug, Albert and Donald; Son-in-law Stephen Power, and great granddaughter Brielle Marie. The family would like to send heartfelt thanks to Dr. Kaitlyn Barns, nurses Leah, Martina, Neely, Grace, Jen, Roberta and Cheryl for the wonderful care and compassion they provided for James and his family while he was at MVMH in Middle Musquodoboit. Special thanks to Bruce and Elicia at DS Crowell & Son Funeral Home for all their professional and loving service. Visitation will take place at DS Crowell & Son Funeral Home 22558 Hwy 7 in Sheet Harbour on Monday, April 3rd 2-4, 7-9 with prayers at 7:30 pm. Funeral service will be at St. Peter’s Catholic Church 43 St. Peter’s Loop Sheet Harbour on Tuesday April 4th at 2 pm. Reception to follow at the Royal Canadian Legion 23566 Hwy #7. Private graveside service will take place at a later date.
