Obituary of Francis Harnish

HARNISH, FRANCIS, 76 of Beaver Harbour passed away peacefully on October 20th in ESM Hospital, Sheet Harbour. He was a son of the late Robert & Dorothy (Farnell) Harnish. At a young age, Francis lobster fished with his Dad, then worked cutting pulpwood & was self-employed with Beaver Harbour Forestry until his retirement doing silviculture employing a number of others.
Francis loved the outdoors & felt he had a good life always surrounded by nature. He enjoyed gardening, fishing & hunting,& bowling with the Westhaver family. He was an avid reader & a wealth of knowledge often reading an encyclopedia for hours beginning in his youth. It is a safe bet that he read the entire set. He enjoyed playing crib and attending dances at the Legion with his friends. Francis was an active member of Sheet Harbour Ground Search & Rescue for many years participating in numerous searches. He had a keen interest in history and was a member of Sheet Harbour Heritage Society.
Francis is survived by his loving sister Barb Henley, nieces, Kelly, Jillian, Wanda & Amy & their families, neighbour & best friend for over 40 years, Roddy MacDonald & family, Sonya O'Neill & Claire Metcalfe who always had a special place in his heart , numerous cousins & an abundance of good friends many like family & his beloved dog Bear. He was predeceased by his parents, brother Richard, brother-in-laws, Cyril Boutilier & Wayne Henley.
Being an avid reader, Francis recently compared life to a good book which has many chapters but eventually you reach the end. Special thanks to Dr. MacDonald, wonderful, caring nurses, Sue at day clinic, reception, kitchen, cleaning & laundry staff at ESM Hospital. Everyone was so kind & your excellent care was appreciated. To Bruce & Elicia at Crowell's Funeral Home, thank you for your professional & compassionate service as always. To all others who offered support in any way your kindness will always be remembered. Cremation has taken place. Graveside service to be held at St. Margaret's Anglican Church Cemetery, Sober Island on Friday, October 28th at 2PM under the direction of Crowell's Funeral Home. My father the late Duncan S. Crowell purchased the business on August 31, 1970 from the late Parker Hamilton. Dad named it Eastern Memorial Funeral Home until a few years later when he changed the name to DS Crowell Funeral Home.
