Obituary of Reid Stanley Monk

Please share a memory of Reid to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Reid Stanley Monk, left us on September 6, 2022 to be reunited with his Mom and his Dad, who he will finally meet and his twin brother. Loving husband, father and grandfather. He was born in East Ship Harbour to Roy and Marie Monk, nee Daye, on Sept 1st 1943, moments before becoming a big brother to his twin, who he protected and loved dearly. They were connected in a way only they could explain. He was always a hard worker and would give his shirt off his back to anyone in need. He shared many stories with his children and grandchildren about the life lessons he learned growing up. He instilled his values of hard work, caring and devotion in them. He taught them to be self sufficient, if you didn’t know something, it was an opportunity to learn and grow. You had to know how to change a tire and check your oil before you could have the car. He worked most of his younger years in the family garage, where he developed his passion for cars, then became a heavy equipment operator, operating everything that had tracks or wheels, becoming an expert excavator operator. He enjoyed family time the most and when his children were grown, he began collecting and restoring antique cars. Reid was a member of the Eastern Shore Memories Cruisers, he was very proud of his 1962 Comet, which he and his son totally restored. He made friends everywhere he went and took pride in the building of relationships. Everyone knew him and he knew everyone, or so it seamed, which made visiting friends a regular occurrence. He will be sadly missed by his soulmate and wife of 53 years Martha Monk, nee Day. His sons, Dan, wife Angela Monk, nee MacDougall, Roy, wife Alishea Monk, nee Bond and his daughter Diane Monk Whitty. His grandchildren Daniel, Ceiledh, Rosalee, Noelle and Genevieve. He is predeceased by his twin brother Roy and sisters Claudia, Carol, Ann and Jeannine. Sisters-in-law Keleen and Linda. He leaves behind his sisters Linda, (Seldon), Janet, (Phil), Kathleen, (Ian) brothers Clive, (Audrey), Arthur and John (Sylvia). Visitation will take place at DS Crowell & Son Funeral home Sept 11 from 6-8pm with prayers at 7. A funeral will be held at St Denis Catholic Church Mon Sept 12th at 11:00 am, committal to follow. All are welcome to a reception at St Denis Church Hall following the committal. Online condolences may be directed to www.crowellsfuneralhome.ca
