Asprey, John Percy “Jock”- 91, Sheet Harbour passed away peacefully October 18, 2021 in Harbourview Lodge, Sheet Harbour surrounded by family. Born May 18, 1930 in Halifax he was a son of the late Thomas & Helen (Gerrior) Asprey. Predeceased by his loving wife Blanche (Howe) of 47 years. As a young boy Jock was an apprentice watch maker with his father. In his early years he worked at British Car Sales for 20 years, he then went on to work at the Dockyard in Halifax at the grain elevator. Jock and Blanche then moved with their young family to Sheet Harbour, where Jock worked at the local pulp mill as a labourer and then for Department of Transportation as a plow operator before starting his own business’ called Sheet Harbour Sanitation and Asprey’s Towing & Salvage until his retirement. Jock was well known along the Eastern Shore for his quick wit, humour, and community involvement. Jock was a past and Honorary member of Sheet Harbour Volunteer Fire Department, Eastern Shore Memory Cruisers, Sheet Harbour Board of Trade, and past president of Native Council N.S. Zone 11. His door was always open to anyone in need. Survived by children; Annette (Chester) Rafuse, Truro Heights, John (June), Spry Bay, Randy (Helen), Sheet Harbour, Karen (Eric MacKinnon), Sheet Harbour, Carla (Arthur Turner), Beaver Dam, Roger (Wendi Fielding), Truro, grandchildren; Amanda, Carlene, Ian-John, Hannah, Steven, Scott, Kandice, Roger, Matthew, Scotland, Korey, Tylor, Lawson, Layton, Sebastian, Tilina, Makira, 21 great grandchildren, brothers; Ronnie & Donald, sisters; Margaret, Mildred, Edie, Nellie, many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by brothers; Thomas, Fred, Bill, Joe, Eddie, Henry, Hughie, Jimmie, and William in infancy, sisters; Joni, Laura, Anne, Marjorie, and Theresa & Cecelia in infancy. Visitation will be held Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 in DS Crowell & Son Funeral Home 22558 Highway 7 Sheet Harbour, masks and proof of vaccination required. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday October 22 at 11:30a.m. in St. Peters Roman Catholic Church, Sheet Harbour Father Vincent officiating. Masks and proof of vaccination required. Burial will be held Saturday October 23 at 10:00a.m. in St. Peters Church Cemetery, Sheet Harbour. The family would like to thank Eastern Shore Memorial Hospital, Harbourview Lodge and Dr. MacDonald for the kind and compassionate care shown to Jock during his time there. who we are:
My father the late Duncan S. Crowell purchased the business on August 31, 1970 from the late Parker Hamilton. Dad named it Eastern Memorial Funeral Home until a few years later when he changed the name to DS Crowell Funeral Home.
