Obituary of Bernice MacDonald
MacDonald, Mary Bernice (Myers)- 84 Head of Jeddore. It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Bernice who passed away peacefully at Twin Oaks Memorial Hospital in the early hours of December 5, 2019. Born June 10, 1935 in Head of Jeddore she was a daughter of the late Byron and Mary (Brown) Myers. After graduating high school in Middle Musquodoboit Bernice went on to study nursing at the Nova Scotia Hospital, graduating from Dalhousie as an RN. Her love of people and community led her to a successful career in Public Health working primarily on the Eastern Shore. She proudly worked day in and day out until her retirement in 1993. Bernices’ retirement years were spent surrounded by loved ones at her home, travelling to Bluegrass festivals around the Maritimes and consistently bringing pure love and joy to everyone that she met along the way. Her family, friends and community all truly miss this wonderful soul. Survived by husband Darrell MacDonald, Head of Jeddore; daughter, Darlene Cook (Neil); grandsons, Liam Cook (Amy) and Max Cook (Marion); great granddaughter Ruby Cook; many loved brothers in laws and sisters in laws, nieces, nephews and cousins. Predeceased by daughter Catherine Claire MacDonald ; sister, Muriel (Dickie)(McCurdy); brothers, Orland and John Myers . Visitation will be held Sunday December 8 , 2- 4pm in D.S. Crowell & Son Funeral Home, 22558 Highway 7, Sheet Harbour. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 am Monday December 9 in St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church, Sheet Harbour, Father Fabian officiating , assisted by Archbishop Martin Currie. Burial to follow in St. Peter’s Cemetery. Reception to follow in the Sheet Harbour Legion Hall, Watt Section. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to the Twin Oaks/Birches Foundation as a thank you for the care received by the nursing staff and Dr. Natasha MacInnis. My father the late Duncan S. Crowell purchased the business on August 31, 1970 from the late Parker Hamilton. Dad named it Eastern Memorial Funeral Home until a few years later when he changed the name to DS Crowell Funeral Home.
