Obituary of Reginald Wentworth Mason
Age 100, Spry Harbour. It is with great sadness, yet thankfulness, for a life well-lived that the family announces the peaceful passing of Reg on Monday, September 9th, 2019 in Eastern Shore Memorial Hospital, Sheet Harbour surrounded by his loving family. Reg was born on December 8, 1918 in Woodside, Dartmouth, the first born child of the late George and Clara (Monk) Mason. In his early years Reg worked alongside his father in the woods and stevedoring. In the late 1960's Reg moved his wife to Dartmouth where he was employed as a custodian by the Dartmouth School Board retiring in 1983. Upon retirement he returned to his beloved Spry Harbour where he faithfully served St. Andrews Anglican Church for many years. Reg enjoyed candy, especially chocolate, lively discussions on politics, religion, and our changing society. He was very fortunate to have had many friends whom faithfully visited and brought joy to his life. He is survived by his children, Gloria Jean Ashton (Fred), Glenda Chittick (Wayne); grandchildren, Darren, Michelle, Derrick, Marlene, Dwayne, Shawn, Jennifer, Rhonda, Andrew, Matthew; great-grandchildren, Jimmy, Graham, Brandon, Laura, Brian, Ashton, Sophia, Chole, Landen; great great-granddaughter, Olivia; son- in-law, Darrell Kenney; brothers, Larry (Geraldine), Sheet Harbour; Raymond (Linda), Bedford; sisters, Irma (Harold) Cooper, Dartmouth; Denise (Neil) Marple, Port Hastings; many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his loving wife of 68 years, Ezilda Josey in 2006; children, Kenneth Mason and Beulah Kenney; son-in-law, Warren Chittick; daughter-in-law, Renee Mason; brother, George; sisters, Margie, Shirley, Cedie and Ruth. Visitation will be held Friday, September 13th from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. with prayers at 7:30 p.m. all in D.S. Crowell & Son Funeral Home, 22558 Highway 7, Sheet Harbour. Funeral will be held Saturday, September 14th at 2 p.m. in St. Andrews Anglican Church, Spry Harbour, Rev. Lorraine Otto officiating. Burial in the church cemetery. Family flowers only. Donations may be made to St. Andrews Anglican Church, Spry Harbour. Much appreciation to the staff of Eastern Shore Memorial Hospital for their care and compassion displayed to Reg in his final days. My father the late Duncan S. Crowell purchased the business on August 31, 1970 from the late Parker Hamilton. Dad named it Eastern Memorial Funeral Home until a few years later when he changed the name to DS Crowell Funeral Home.
