Obituary of Jerome Patrick Monk

Jerome (Jerry) Patrick Monk It is with profound sadness and broken hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Jerry on August 11, 2026, at the age of 66. His passing leaves behind a grief too heavy for words and a family that loved him beyond measure. Jerry was a beloved and devoted son, brother, uncle, cousin and friend. Family meant everything to him, and he cherished the time spent with those he loved. He looked forward to visits with his nieces and nephews, enjoying the chance to catch up and hear about their lives, and loved spending time with his little greats. He was especially close to his nephews Thomas, Tylor and Travis, who thought the world of him. Together, they spent many hours 4-wheeling, taking road trips and making Tim’s runs (iced cap and a Boston cream, but don’t tell Mom). Jerry always looked forward to their calls, no matter where in the world they happened to be. He had a special love for animals, especially his beloved cat, Buster. Jerry never missed a trick and forgot nothing. He enjoyed watching reality television, documentaries, history programs, and Saturday night hockey (being an avid Habs fan). He looked forward to family gatherings, with Christmas holding a special place in his heart. Jerry was instrumental in enabling his parents to remain in their home until the end of their lives, a reflection of the deep care and responsibility he carried for those he loved. He will be deeply missed by his brothers Joey (Sharon) and Tony (Marilyn), his sister Marianne (Harry) Marshall; his sister-in-law Patricia MacKay; his uncle Don McKay (Pam); nieces and nephews Ricky, Stephen, Judy (Trevor), Robert (Riley), David (Annaleigh), Stephanie (Ryan), Thomas (Lara), Tylor (Heather), and Travis (Kristen); and his great nieces and great nephews Mitchell, Logan, Joseph, Cayla, Quartz, Sarah, Addison, Rosalie, Ruby Jean, Dante, Emberleigh, Beatrice, Amalia, Ophelia, and Taylor. He will also be deeply missed by his dear friend, Byron Courtney, who was like a brother to him. He was predeceased by his parents, Marion and Thomas; his brother Tommy; sister-in-law Margaret; brother Herb MacKay; two brothers in infancy; and his infant nephew Tyson. He leaves behind a lifetime of memories and a family who will carry his love with them always. His absence will be felt at every family gathering, every Christmas, every phone call, and in all the ordinary moments that will never feel quite the same without him. He was deeply loved and will be deeply missed. Cremation has taken place. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 19 , 2026, at St. Denis Roman Catholic Cemetery, East Ship Harbour. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Brain Injury Society of Nova Scotia or the SPCA
