HORNE, Roderick Howard
With heavy hearts, the family announces the peaceful passing of Roderick Howard Horne, age 88, on June 6, 2026, at Harbourview Lodge, Sheet Harbour, with caring nurses by his side.
Born in Moser River during a snowstorm on December 16, 1937, Rod was a son of the late Howard and Vera (Alexander) Horne.
Rod worked a variety of jobs in his younger years before joining Modern Dental in Halifax, where he spent many years developing his skills and eventually becoming a denturist. He later returned home to Moser River and established his own denture practice, serving the community and surrounding areas for 43 years. Rod took great pride in his work and was always happy to help people regain their smiles. When the COVID-19 pandemic arrived, he made the difficult decision to retire.
Retirement was a significant adjustment for Rod. Although his health gradually declined, he remained grateful for the exceptional care he received. Following a hospitalization at Eastern Shore Memorial Hospital in Sheet Harbour in September of last year, Rod and his family were deeply touched by the kindness, compassion, and dedication shown by the nurses and staff. Their care and support meant so much not only to Rod but also to Valerie.
Rod is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Valerie; his son, Robbie; and his beloved grandchildren, Shawn and Nicca of Coaldale, Alberta. He is also survived by his sisters, Muriel Hatter, Joan (Roy) Langille, and Alice (Victor) Bissonette, as well as many cherished nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Rod was predeceased by his sisters, Linda Gray and Patsy Delwo.
Rod will be remembered for his dedication to his profession, his commitment to his community, his quiet strength, and the many friendships he formed throughout his life.
Family and friends are invited to join in sharing memories and celebrating Rod's life at the Sheet Harbour Legion on Saturday, June 13, 2026, from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the nurses and staff of Eastern Shore Memorial Hospital and Harbourview Lodge for the compassion, kindness, and exceptional care shown to Rod and Valerie. Special thanks are also extended to the dear friends with whom they shared so much time while at the hospital—friends who became their family away from home.
Forever loved, deeply missed, and fondly remembered.
