Obituary of Ola Seretha Currie

Ola Seretha Josey Currie, age 83, of Sheet Harbour, passed away Saturday, May 23, 2026, in Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow. Born in Spry Bay on June 2, 1942, she was a daughter of the late Ashley and Loretta (Lawlor) Josey. Ola worked for many years as a cook at the Sheet Harbour Motel and Eastern Shore Memorial Hospital. She was well known for her catering, preparing meals for weddings and many other special occasions throughout the community. She was a devoted member of the Sheet Harbour Lioness Club for over 30 years, the Eastern Shore New Horizon Club, and the CWL. Ola enjoyed bingo, quilting, knitting, sewing, making fruit cakes, and preparing her well-loved egg rolls. She will be greatly missed by her daughters, Karen (Wade) Daye and Beverley (Craig) Gerrard; son, Blois (Kate); daughter-in-law, Janet; 10 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; sisters, Eldona and Anita (Leo); brothers, Brady (Rose), Ralph (Irene), Lindsay (Barb), Elmer (Linda), and Ira (Sharon). Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Jackie; son, Wade; granddaughter, Natalie; sisters, Dorothy (Densmore), Freda (Reg), and Linda in infancy; brothers, Winfred and Hector; and brother-in-law, George Cormier. Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 27, from 2–4 and 7–9 p.m. in D.S. Crowell & Son Funeral Home, 22558 Highway 7, Sheet Harbour. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, May 28, at 10 a.m. in St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church, Sheet Harbour, with burial in the church cemetery. A reception will follow at the Sheet Harbour Lions Centre. Donations in Ola’s memory may be made to the Rainbow Food Bank or another local charity of choice.
