Obituary – Minnie Rita Zinck
Minnie Rita Zinck, age 96, of Watt Section, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 2, 2026, at Harbourview Lodge, Sheet Harbour.
Born in Watt Section on October 22, 1929, she was a daughter of the late Baker and Florence (Munro) Holman.
In her earlier years Minnie was employed as a housekeeper for the late Dr. Duncan MacMillan. She was then married and took time off to raise her family. Minnie returned to work years later as a cook at the Beaver Acres Motel. She took great pride in her work and was well known for her warmth and dedication.
Minnie found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She loved cooking and baking for family and friends, quilting, hooking rugs, playing cards, and picking berries. She had a special fondness for small children, her cats, old country music, and, of course, lobster. Her home was always a place of comfort, laughter, and good food.
She is survived by her daughters: Rita (Bruce) Frost, Ottawa; Bonnie Koliotassis, Ajax, Ontario; and Janice (Chris) Ellis, Lunenburg; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters, Janet Casey, Halifax, and Thelma Kastner, Port Hawkesbury; and her brothers, Michael (Frances), Chatham, Ontario, and Johnny (Sharon).
Minnie was predeceased by her beloved husband, Aldon; her son-in-law, Spiro; her sisters, Mary Marshall, Margaret Churchill, and Annie Garand; and her brothers, Gilles, Garnet, Dennis, Frank, Richard, Stanley, Jimmy, Elmer, Alexander, Charles, Raymond, and John, as well as her brother Harold in infancy.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Friday, May 15, from 2–4 and 7–9 p.m. at DS Crowell & Son Funeral Home, 22558 Highway 7, Sheet Harbour. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 16 at 2 p.m. at St. Andrew’s Anglican Church, Watt Section, with Rev. Dr. Michael Foley officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery, with a reception afterward at the Sheet Harbour Legion.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the doctors and staff of Harbourview Lodge, and the Northwood Homecare workers for their compassionate care, as well as to Minnie’s many dear friends for their kindness and support during her time at home and in the nursing home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Andrews Anglican Church or Harbourview Lodge.
Minnie will be lovingly remembered for her kindness, her generosity, and the deep love she held for her family and community.
