Clara Elizabeth Hiltz
It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Clara Elizabeth Hiltz, age 89, of Fleet Settlement, who passed away on Sunday, March 29, 2026, at St. Mary’s Memorial Hospital, Sherbrooke.
Born in Bedford on June 24, 1936, she was a daughter of the late Jeffery and Clara (Greenwood) Fleet.
In her younger years, Clara worked cleaning houses, a role she took great pride in. She later went on to work as a cook at Navarro’s Restaurant and, in later years, at the Marquis of Port Dufferin. Clara was well known for her attention to detail, especially when it came to keeping her own home—she always made sure everything was in perfect order.
Clara found great joy in nature. She loved exploring the woods and spending time tending to her flower garden. She also had a special place in her heart for her beloved fur baby, Spunky.
She is survived by her son Gary; grandchildren Nicole (Rod) Spencer and Jeffery (Jill Doucette); great-grandchildren Jordan and Jansen, and a great-granddaughter on the way; as well as her sister Ann Publicover.
Clara was predeceased by her husband, Walter “Goof” Hiltz; brothers Gerald (Vivian “AA”) Fleet and William “Bill” (Gwen) Fleet; brother-in-law George Publicover; and her lifelong friend, Juanita Gallant.
By her request, there will be no visitation or funeral service.
Clara will be lovingly remembered for her strong work ethic, her love of nature, and the care she showed to her family and home.
