Please share a memory of Sandra to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Sandra (Sandy) Shand Sandy passed away peacefully on January 1st in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. Sandy was the beloved spouse of Pam Marshall and the cherished sister of her devoted brother, John (Jack) [Jeff]. Born in Toronto on November 16, 1951, to the late Fred (Ted) and Fran Shand, Sandy lived a life marked by deep affection for her family, as a trusted and generous friend, and with acourageous spirit. Sandy approached life with a joie de vivre to embrace all that life had to offer, and a practical outlook to face any challenges along the way. She pursued her education at McGill University and McMaster University, graduating in 1972, and went on to build a distinguished professional career with CIBC. Beginning in branch operations and later moving to head office, Sandy specialized in human resources and labour relations, earning the respect of many colleagues. A particularly proud moment for her was joining the Canadian delegation to an International Labour Organization meeting in Geneva. Over the years, Sandy lived in Montreal, Toronto, Keswick, and Porter’s Lake, NS. In retirement, Sandy and Pam created a rich and rewarding life in Nova Scotia, a place that reflected Sandy’s love of nature and where she treasured the everyday moments of home life. Sandy had many interests and passions from playing basketball in her youth to later enjoying boating and curling, and she had her favourite travel destinations and fond memories visiting across Canada and beyond. Above all, Sandy valued time spent with family and friends, whose companionship brought her immense happiness. She also held a special place in her heart for the many dogs who were at her side over the years and never failed to make her smile. The Marshall and Shand families extend their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate palliative care team at Dartmouth General Hospital for their exceptional care and kindness in Sandy’s final weeks. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Dartmouth General Hospital Foundation or to the cancer charity of one’s choice. A Memorial Service will be held Thursday January 8, 2026 at 12:30pm in A.L Mattatall Funeral Home, 217 Portland Street, Dartmouth N.S. Rev. Glenn MacLean officiating.
