Obituary for Linda Marie Walsh (née Mattsson)
It is with heartfelt sorrow to announce that Linda Marie Walsh (née Mattsson), age 71, passed away peacefully on December 9, 2025, at the QE2 Hospital in Halifax, Nova Scotia, with loved ones by her side.
Born on December 1, 1954, in Saint John, New Brunswick, Linda spent much of her life rooted in family, faith, and service to others. She lived in the family home in Upper Golden Grove until 2021, when she moved to Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, to be closer to her children and cherished grandchildren — years for which her family will always be deeply grateful.
Linda was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She is survived by her sons, Nathan Walsh (Nichole) of Dartmouth, NS, and Sean Walsh of Dartmouth, NS; her beloved grandchildren, Mila, Scarlett, and Remington (Remy); and her siblings Hazel Dow of Saint John, NB, Calvin Mattsson of Saint John, NB, Betty Ann Mattsson (Gary Vautour) of Saint John, NB, and Gary Drew (Cathy) of Pembroke, ON. She is also lovingly remembered by several nieces, nephews, in-laws, and friends.
Linda was predeceased by her parents, Irene Collette and Harry Mattsson; her husband, Jim Walsh; her son, Joshua; and her brother, Fred.
Earlier in her life, Linda worked at Neilson’s Coupon until the birth of her youngest son, after which she dedicated herself fully to raising her boys. She was a proud stay-at-home mother who also cared for other children in her home, offering warmth, patience, and a safe place for many.
Linda’s heart for service extended far beyond her home. She was an active member of her church and volunteered with Special Olympics for over two decades — a commitment that reflected her deep kindness and compassion for others. An avid reader and someone who loved the simple joys of life, Linda was also well known for playing a mean game of Uno.
Above all else, Linda loved her family fiercely, especially her grandchildren, who brought her endless pride and joy. She will be remembered for her gentle nature, her unwavering kindness, and the thoughtful ways she stayed connected — through random messages, phone calls, and the Christmas cards that so many will dearly miss.
Cremation has taken place. There will be no service at this time. A celebration of Linda’s life will be planned for the summer of 2026 in New Brunswick.
Linda’s family is profoundly grateful for the precious years spent living close together, years filled with love, laughter, and memories that will be treasured forever.
Donations in Linda’s memory may be made to Special Olympics, honouring her lifelong compassion and years of devoted volunteerism.
