We only had the occasion to spend time with Laura 3 times, however it sure didn't take long to realize her family was her number one priority. Condolences to the Riley family.

Q: Describe where Laura worked and what they did
A: Laura, was the Captain at City center aka Vertu Shoppes. She ruled the ship with a Iron tight grip and was a co worker of mine.
I remember in my early days I use to try to solve the issue myself before having to call the Captain for help.
She was a wealth of knowledge and was happy to help after she would put the fear of God into me for interupting her. Somehow we became friendly and she started calling me with questions and asking what I thought about new things at work.
Her son Joey and I had began working together and Mama Bear came out,God help you if you pissed off Mama Bear. It was at this point I saw a different side of Laura, she was so proud of Joey and had no hesitation to let anyone know it. Laura was a direct no bs kind of person, who would crack me up,and I loved that she was a straight shooter and called things as she saw it.
Her most recent conversation was a call to me after we both had training on Yardi.....Laura you will be missed by me and I will cherish our private chats.

I am a tenant of the Vertu, which is the building that Laura managed. I knew her as a fierce advocate for her tenants and remarkable personality. I would sometimes pop into her office with one of my two young children (now 2 and 5 years old) because she clearly loved kids. She talked about her own children and grandchildren like they were her purpose. My team and I will miss Laura dearly.

I went to High School at Queen Elizabeth in Halifax. My final year there a new student started there, well new to us anyway, she had come back to finish her schooling, so she was a little older then us, but she had the heart of a teenager, and she was a " FIRECRACKER". She was not happy unless everyone she saw or met had a smile on their face, whether they liked it or not. Our group spent lunch hours in the cafeteria, eating fries, Ketchup and gravy, laughing, studying, talking, just enjoying life. Laura played it close to the cuff with us, we new she was older, how much older? We didn't care, she was one of us. We spent a lot of time together that year, but hardly any time socially outside of school, and I regret that, we touched base on Facebook, chatted a few times, and I regret not doing it more. I'm glad Laura was still larger then life after we parted ways, but if there's any lesson on why you should keep in touch with people who you enjoyed having in your life, this is it, because suddenly that chance is gone, and you'll never get it back. Thank you Laura for making that final year of High School truly memorable. Love you lady.
