It is with great sadness we said “goodbye” to a loving wife, mother and grandmother on Oct 18, 2025. Doreen passed peacefully with her husband by her side and many relatives and friends visiting during her illness at home and in the Palliative care unit at the VG hospital. She was a very strong woman who faced several serious health issues over the last several years but never let them get her down. Her answer was always”we just have to deal with it”.
Born and raised with a love for family and community. She was devoted to helping others. She was a Sunday school teacher at St Luke's Anglican church for many years and a dedicated school volunteer who touched many lives with her kindness and patience at Joseph Giles Elementary School. An excellent cook and baker, she found joy in preparing meals for those she loved whether it was just a couple of people or a group of many. Before becoming a full time mother, she worked as a talented hairdresser at Crescendo Coiffure in Halifax. She was a very talented and creative person who enjoyed doing many different crafts; to name a few such as tole painting, crocheting, knitting, painting pets/animals on rocks, diamond dots art. She was also a skilled seamstress and a natural problem solver with a sharp wit and wonderful sense of humour-----traits fondly carried on by her daughter. She especially enjoyed day trips on the family boat in the beautiful summer weather on Sober Island and spending the last 20 winters in Florida with our other family at the Sundance Lakes RV Resort in Port Richey, Fl.
Doreen is survived by her devoted husband of 53 years, Ronald Munroe, her beloved children Andrew(Sandra) of Calgary, Angela(Ryan)Munroe Lawson of Dartmouth and her loving granddaughter Vanessa Lawson. She was predeceased by her parents Kathleen and Fenwick Craft.
Her warmth, laughter and generosity will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew her. She was an animal lover and loved all of our pets so we would be remiss not to mention she was predeceased by her fur babies.(Pippi, Theo, Jax and Moe.) Our family would like to thank the local Continuing Care team and Palliative Care team at the VG hospital for their compassion and care during Doreen's stay there. You all are a wonderful group of people and a credit to your profession. Your kindness and helpfulness will never be forgotten. Family flowers only please. Donations if you wish can be made to St Margaret's Anglican Church in memory of Doreen or the Canadian Cancer Society. Visitation will be at DS Crowell Funeral Home,22558 Highway 7, Sheet Harbour on Monday, October 27th from 7-9 pm. Funeral service will take place at St Margaret's Anglican Church on Sober Island at 2 pm. on Tuesday, October 28 with Rev. Dr. Mike Foley officiating.
