I would to take a moment to share a memory with you about how Mr. MacDonald made an impression on me...
Mr. MacDonald and I would always jest around saying he was always going to out live us all. It's heartbreaking to know we lost a legend. He was a knowledgeable, quick thinking, challenged us, in order to reach our full potential. Mr. MacDonald showed us he believed in us, knowing we could do anything we set our mind to. He would walk in with his newspaper to work on his Lexicon Puzzles, brief case and a Pepsi in his hand. I had him for CRS and Mathematics.(Which both I was not favorable of). At that time in my life, I had the mind set as into " I would never use anything from either of these courses." When I would express to him this vocally, he would be respond with a chuckle by saying " You would be surprised when you might need it." Into which I would just reply "un-huh". In actuality, the man was right.... Who knew?!
One of my most favorable moments that I had with him was when he shared his traumatic story of his childhood with me. The day he had shared this with me, I was going through something traumatic myself. I feel he shared his story in order for help me get through what I was going through. I felt there was hidden message he wanted to portray to me in hopes I remember his words of advice. That not everything is as it seems. That no matter what curve balls life throws at you, you can over come them one day at a time.
That has stuck with me ever since. I try to live by that hidden message everyday since.
To His Loved Ones,
I am truly sorry for your loss. My heart breaks for each one of you. He was a wonderful person, a great role model, kind, compassionate, and understanding. He will never be forgotten, to those who he left an imprint on. They are the one's who carry out the life lessons that he taught everyday.
Rest Easy Mr. MacDonald, Thank You for being you.
Sincerely,
Melissa LaPierre

Dear Tanya and Robyn,
You have been in my thoughts so much this week and wishing I could be there today. I will miss those long chats with Johnny. He has been faithful to keep in touch over the years and his calls the last three years just to check on me and see how I was doing were heartfelt and much appreciated. Wishing you comfort and strength for the road ahead.

Dear Tanya, Robyn and family,
We extend our heartfelt condolences to each of you. Our memories of John have three themes. First was the father of a dear baby girl whom cried far too much at night for the good of herself or her loving patient parents. We really have no idea but we do hope moving our bedroom to the outside bedroom helped everyone sleep a bit better. Secondly, and most largely, was the no nonsense but supportive Math teacher to our three children. We will forever be thankful for your dedication and approach to teaching and classroom behaviour. Thirdly, after his retirement was the opportunity to catch John at the local grocery store and share a laugh.
We are sorry we are unable to attend visitation or the service in honour of John. May your memories and the support of family, friends and community bring you comfort at this difficult time.
Joey and Sheila Martin

I've been out of school for almost 30 years and I still called him Mr. MacDonald, never by his first name, as I had an enormous amount of respect for him. He was my grade 10 math teacher, and he believed in me when I couldn't. He was so kind to me when I was struggling, and always gave me the best advice when I needed it. He made me want to do better, to be better. Im so very sorry to hear of his passing.

My sincere condolences to John’s family. He is one teacher with memories that will stay with me. He helped me to do better, and I think he believed in me when I didn’t believe in myself. He would offer up lunch times to offer extra help if needed to get through a tough unit. Even at graduation he took a beautiful picture of my daughter and myself.
ALWAYS with a can of Pepsi in hand!!
He truly was one of a kind!!
RIP Mr Mac
