We planned a biking trip to long lake camp, and we borrowed our neighbor’s bike. Rocky and I, his mom and sister headed to well known spot near Round Lake.
Matty always said, “stay clear of the sawdust pile.”
WELL - as you can probably guess, Rocky and I didn’t exactly follow Matty’s advise.
Let’s just say it took awhile to get out. But Rocky? He was having the time of his life laughing the whole way through.

Rocky you were one of the sweetest, most respectful young man there was. Remembered so much for that contagious handsome smile that anyone that knew you won’t ever forget. Always up for an adventure and living life to the fullest but taken way too soon. You’re missed by so so many people. The relationship that you and Tory created over the years will never be forgotten. You mean the world to her and we know you will watch over her being the special big cousin that you were. I think of you constantly Rock and how I wish more than anything you were still here with us. Your absence has left a great sadness in so many peoples lives.
Over the past month and a half I have reflected on your life and all the times spent together. From you being that sweet little baby with the big brown eyes, the little boy who loved swimming in the pool and playing with his Spider-Man, to the chubby pre-teen always wearing those brown cotton pants, how you would call me from cadet camp every night because you were so lonely and were missing home. All the camping trips, fairs, day trips. So many little things I remember about you and a lot of special times together as a family but what I remember most is how you were always the same, always in a good mood and smiling and enjoying life and how you treated people with kindness.
You’ve grown into be such a handsome kind person and we were so proud of your success and how respectful you were.
You will never be forgotten and are so loved bud and so missed!

A few pictures of Uncle Mike & Rock that I took at a few family functions… family gathering will never be the same without Rocky there. I am so happy we had one last one the weekend before his passing. I remember teasing him that day and how he blushed, how he greeted us with a fist bump. Forever missed and loved!

From the days when you were small, to the man you came to be,
Your love remains a beacon, in our shared memory.
We miss you every moment, as we learn to let you go,
But your light within us, forever will glow.
I see your parents and Sister lost and shattered, trying to carry on,
In every tear and whispered prayer, your memory lives on.
The silence now is deafening, where your laughter used to ring,
But in our hearts, your melody will forever sing.
Love you and miss you, Rock! xo

Handsome Rocky,
I’m so honoured to have gotten to know you. You were such an extraordinary soul. Every moment with you felt like a dream. You always carried that big, handsome smile, while your eyes sparkled with the joy of life. You treated others with such a high level of compassion and respect, it was truly inspiring.
With each passing day, I fell more in love. I loved learning your favourite songs, like Simple Man by Lynyrd Skynyrd. The last day I saw you we listened to it together, and I remember thinking how I lucky I was. The luckiest girl in the world. I had spent years admiring you. Once, long before we ever spoke, you came through my checkout at Foodland. I got so nervous I couldn’t bring myself to strike up a conversation. After you left, I immediately turned to my coworker and raved all about how handsome you were. Only to realize I had been ringing in your Aunt Robin, who signed her full name on the receipt! As mortified as I was, that moment brought us many good laughs later on.
I’ll love you forever, my handsome Rocky Skadoosh.

Aunt Karen & Uncle Matty’s Speech
As we gather here today in a place Rocky loved so dearly—his grandparents’ homestead, now Aunt Karen and Uncle Matty’s home—we want to thank everyone for being here to honor his life and the many ways he enriched ours.
For those who may not know me, I’m Melissa, Rocky’s cousin and Mike and Natasha’s niece. I have the honor of reading this on behalf of my Aunt Karen and Uncle Matty, who are unable to do so themselves.
I was so excited when Natasha was expecting her second child, due on June 5th—my birthday. From that moment on, Rocky and I shared many birthdays together, and I’m beyond grateful I got to spend his last one with him.
When Rocky was little, his big sister Nikita loved watching *Bear in the Big Blue House*. The moon in the show was named Luna, and Nikita started calling me “Aunt Nuna.” From then on, Rocky called me Aunt Nuna too—it stuck for years.
I remember when Rocky was young and wanted to stay with us, but as soon as Natasha went to leave, he’d change his mind. After several trips from the car to the house, Natasha finally made him go home. He cried the whole drive from Lawrencetown to Musquodoboit Harbour, saying, “I want to stay with Aunt Nuna!”
As a boy, Rocky loved Spider-Man. I once found a bunch of Spider-Man toys at a yard sale and surprised him with them—he was absolutely thrilled.
---
Rocky, our Rockstar—
The time went by far too quickly. We will forever cherish every moment and memory we shared with you. Being your Aunt Karen and Uncle Matty, and your godparents, was a true privilege. You felt like the son we never had.
You were always the first to jump up to greet us or say goodbye, giving us those big, warm hugs and that infectious smile. You always asked, “How was your week?” or “Have a great one.” We’ll miss those texts and calls checking in on us more than words can say.
One of my favorite memories was when you asked me to help coach your hockey team. I’ll never forget the game when there was a big scrum in front of your goalie—you stood out as the big guy. You grabbed another player by the jersey, looked him in the eye, and just shook your head. He dropped his arms and skated to the penalty box. You didn’t need words—your presence spoke for itself. You were a leader, and everyone saw it.
We’ll also miss our hockey rivalry—Bruins versus Penguins. For some reason, you usually had the last laugh. I’m sure your big sister will proudly carry on that battle.
Another special moment was when I passed along a gun that had been handed down to me from my dad. Not long after, you called me, so excited:
“Uncle Matty! I got one—my first deer! This gun is wicked—it dropped him!”
You were so proud, and so was I.
Even as you grew older, you never changed. You always greeted us with a hug and a kiss, no matter who was around. You always asked how we were doing and wished us a great day or week. That kind heart and genuine care are what made you so special.
---
Rocky was our nephew and our godson—but more than anything, he was like a son to us. He had the brightest smile, a kind soul, and a deep love for his family. We were so proud of the respectful, hardworking, and caring young man he became.
We’re forever grateful for all the happy times and laughter we shared. It’s hard to imagine our family gatherings without him—checking in, joking, and just being there.
Let us honor Rocky by living as he did—with kindness, respect, and a willingness to lend a hand. Let’s smile, love deeply, and live life to the fullest, just as he did.
As we leave here today, may we take a moment to think about the impact we have on others—just as Rocky did every day.
Rocky, we hope you’re up there with Nanny and Poppy. We love you so very much and will miss you beyond words.
Thank you for the love, joy, and laughter you brought into our lives. The moments we shared are now precious memories we’ll cherish forever.
We will always remember you, Rocky, and we feel so blessed to have had 23 special years with you.
Until we meet again.
Love,
Aunt Karen & Uncle Matty
XOXO

Our dear son Rocky,
We still can’t believe that you are no longer with us. We keep looking at our phone, waiting for a text. You would send several texts per day, checking in to see how our day was going and to say “I love you xoxo.”
Friday nights will never be the same. Waiting for that GTI to pull in to the driveway and you to hop out with the biggest smile on your face. You were always so excited to be home for the weekend. There was never a day that went by where you didn’t text dad complaining about the city traffic.
Dad & I would get a hug, a kiss & a “how was your week?” What we would do to have a big hug from you again. There are so many things we will miss, such as, doing your grocery shopping as Rocky didn’t like grocery shopping, preparing meals on Sunday for you to take back for the week as Rocky was only into cooking breakfast foods. Also when you were ready to leave you would make a few too many trips up and down the steps looking for stuff because you were always misplacing stuff.
I will miss our phone calls when an incident took place and for some reason you would always call, expecting me to take care of the situation even though I would be an hour and a half away. Recently Rocky had gotten locked out of his cousin’s apartment and he called me at midnight saying a few choice words. I said, “Rocky, what do you want me to do?” He said, “Sorry mom, I just always call you when I don’t know what to do.”
You were not only our son but you were Dad’s best friend. He will miss all of the things you guys loved to do together such as fishing, hunting, biking and just hanging out having a drink and a little something else while laughing the night away.
Rocky, dad & I knew you were loved and a very special guy, but since you were taken from us the kind words we’ve heard and read from friends and family really shows how true it was. You definitely were the life of the party from your friend’s point of view and that shows just how much of a little Michael Kenney you were.
Mike wanted us to share a funny story about him and Rocky when he was younger. Rocky was about nine and his dad was home on the computer. Mike had no idea how to use the computer but his buddies had told him a few things that he could look up. He ended up googling, “naked women.” At the same time as the site loaded, Rocky’s school bus was dropping him off from school. Mike didn’t know how to get it off of the computer so he just turned off the screen and waited for Rocky in the kitchen. Everyday when Rocky got home from school he always went right to the computer so as soon as he turned it on there was a screen full of naked women. Rocky yelled, “DAD look what’s on the screen!” Mike goes, “Rocky you better get that off before your mother gets home.” It was several years later that Mike finally shared the story with us.
I thought saying good bye to you would be the most difficult thing that I have ever done Rocky but I was so wrong. Living life without your smile, hugs and the I love you’s are definitely going to be the hardest. No parents should ever have to go through this.
Dad and I will cherish all of our special times and memories we had with you, even though it was cut way too short.
We love you and miss you so much my sweet, handsome, Rocky.

Rock really was the most kind, genuine and respectful young man I’ve ever met. He was obviously well recognized for his handsome face and big ol’ smile. Although I’m his sister and potentially a little bias, I’d say all the kind words and posts from everyone truly does show just how one of a kind Rock really was. One time in specific that I think of often that made me so proud was being at the ball field and he had heard someone say a rude/disrespectful comment towards someone else. Rock didn’t skip a beat, he quickly went over to them and explained how what was said wasn’t right and that he didn’t want to hear it again. His voice wasn’t raised and he didn’t say it in a rude tone; he respectfully got his point across. In that moment, I just stood there speechless for how respectfully he had stood up for the individual.
The love he had for our family and his friends stood out in all that he did. Anytime I was home at mom & dad’s for the weekend and Rock would get home from work on a Friday, I’d always get a big hug and a “how was your week kita?” I will forever be thankful for our little chats and catch ups when home on the weekends. Although Rock had many hobbies, one of his favourite things to do was go camping as a family. Mom & Dad, you truly have given us the best childhood and upbringing. We went on a family camping trip, just the 4 of us, at least once every year. Of course as we got older and had more on the go, the amount of times per summer decreased, but we always managed to fit one trip in there. Last summer was probably one of my favourites. We went to Cape Breton for a few nights and I think 75% of our trip involved us playing spike ball as Rock & I loved it so much & I think by the end of the trip that love had rubbed off onto dad too. The rest of the time was spent exploring all of the activities in Cape Breton. We had gone to gypsum mines and Rock and I had swam from one side to the other to where there was a cliff that you could jump off. I think Rock and I spent 30 minutes just sitting there in the water trying to talk ourselves into jumping until finally I got the courage to jump. Rock and I were a competitive pair, but just the right amount of competitiveness. Always enjoying yard games such as corn hole, washers and lawn darts. Washers sometimes resulted in Rock sulking about how low aunt Wanda and uncle Al’s washer boxes were, so Rock would hit the box 95% of the time, but the washers would always bounce out. Another activity that Rock and I were both fond of was of course the odd shot gun here and there. Shot gunning was always my party trick until Rock turned 19 and gave me a run for my money. Like mentioned on facebook, I’ll finally admit that he’s only ever beaten me once. Although Rock was a man of few words, usually just standing there with a Coldstream peach iced tea in hand and a big smile on his face, he really was the life of the party.
Rock was also the best little brother. Always there to support me in whatever I did. He was at the ball field as much as he could be watching me play. This past summer Rock had split on a boat with one of his best friends Matt. He was so excited and was always wanting to take everyone for a boat ride. As hungover as I was one Sunday at a family get together at aunt Robin & uncle Russ’ the one thing that I did make sure I was able to do was let Rock take me for a boat ride. Him, Victoria & I drove all through the harbour, right down to the end of east river. He was so proud of all of his toys, including his car, bike and boat. I think he spent most of his summer weekends out on his brand new Can-am, heading back to Wade’s camp with dad & his friends.
Everyone that knew Rock knows that he was a massive Boston Bruins fan. He had gifted Dad, me & himself brand new bruins jerseys this year. After getting these jerseys we had actually began chatting about heading to Boston Jan 11th for a Bruins vs. Penguins game with dad & uncle Matty.
When Rock and I were younger I don’t think we ever stopped. Constantly finding something to get up to outside. Usually our days involved heading down to the frog pond to catch frogs and tadpoles. Rock & I for some reason didn’t enjoy sleeping alone when we were younger. We had to sleep in the same bed as one another for longer than I’d like to admit. One summer our cousin Sam was babysitting us and we were playing softball outside. Rock had ran by just as Sam pitched me the ball and I smoked Rock in the cheek with the bat. Well, payback came very quickly. Maybe a week later I was by the pool feeling the temperature of the water when he swung this hollow stick which slipped from his fingers and right into my face. We had both left one another with a scare on our face. In saying that, I would also say that Rock & I did get along decently well when we were younger. Of course the odd bickering back and fourth and the odd wrestling match which one time ended up with Rock’s knee to my nose. This one time mom, dad, Rock and I were having supper and Rock was definitely the saucier sibling so we’re sitting there and Rock was being saucy to mom. Well I stood up, cocked my fist back and swung. Luckily I was only maybe 9 or 10, so my arms weren’t quite long enough to reach over the table. Mom was quick to say, Kita, remember, it won’t be much longer before Rock is a lot bigger than you. Well, she wasn’t wrong, that chubby faced little boy quickly slimmed out and grew a mile higher than I did. But big ol Rock wouldn’t even hurt a fly.
I will forever cherish our endless memories. Although 23 years of memories isn’t near enough, I would say I’m the luckiest sister in the world to be able to experience everything I did with Rock along my side. We may not have chatted every single day, but the bond that we had was something I will be forever thankful for. I love you so much Rock & I will miss you forever. Give nanny & poppy a hug and kiss for me.
I’d like for everyone to grab a peach iced tea coldstream or a drink and raise them for a cheers to Rocky, aka Rock, rockstar, big rock, and most importantly, my baby brother. Until we meet again.

When I think of Rocky I think of a young man who was respectful, caring and sincere a really awesome guy that loved his family and friends dearly. To some of us Rocky was not only a nephew he was like a son. We will miss him saying how was your weekend or how was your day. He always checked in and greeted us with a hug and genuine welcome.
Rocky had so much love and respect for his family, his work family and his friends. I remember Rocky as a young child if he was mad at Natasha or Mike he would stomp up the steps he would never talk back. Rocky was a young man who was always smiling just like his dad. We always loved seeing his beautiful smile which will be missed immensely, you would never meet Rocky without getting a hug from him. Whether he was with his friends or whoever he would give you a hi, hand wave, big smile, hug or fist bump, he truly was one of a kind who has touched so many lives in his 23 years.
Losing Rocky isn't easy but it's beautiful to see how much love and joy be brought to everyone around him.
We loved that Rocky always showed up to every family event and not only did he show up, he was proud to bring his friends to many parties, meals and events.
One special memory we loved to hear is when Rocky skipped off work on his birthday this year. Rocky,Tory and Aunt Wanda took off to Costco to buy an ice cream maker so he could have special ice cream. They took off for fish and chips he wanted. Then everyone made sure to have the story straight so Natasha didn't know. Shocked - she knew.
We are so proud to watch Rocky grow up, finish his education and excel in his career.
Rocky's memory will be cherished forever.
We love you Rocky and you will never be forgotten.
Natasha and Mike raided a wonderful young man who will live in our hearts forever.

Natasha, Mike, Nikita, and family, no words can properly express the sorrow and sadness we feel for your loss. Rocky was an amazing young man. He always had a smile on his face, and it lit up any room he entered. The grief and sorrow we are all feeling shows how much Rocky is loved and is a testament to the person he is and the impact he made on the lives he touched. I am forever grateful for the wonderful friendship he had with Matthew and Mitchell. They will cherish the good times, the memories, the friendship and the love they shared. Rocky will live forever in our hearts and will never be forgotten. Tara, Mark, Matthew, Mitchell & Bria Roberts

I will forever cherish this first cruise together with family which you loved so much. We walked through St Thomas port and decided to set down for a few beers at a local bar. You were so excited, so glad that I was able to experience this with you. Miss you so much everyday Rocky. Till we meet again.

The last time out camping for Nikita’s birthday, Rocky and I were waiting for breakfast asking me how is my day going. He was such a beautiful person, my precious godson, nephew, and like a son to us. Can’t wait to see you again and that beautiful smile that was so infectious. I love you and will miss those big hugs and kiss you would give me every time you seen me. Xoxo

Mike, Natasha and family,
I wanted to reach out to you and extend my sympathies at the tragic loss of Rocky.
I was Rocky’s apprenticeship instructor at NSCC for the last two years.
Rocky was a great student in class and stood out for his kind manner and politeness. I always appreciated his enthusiasm for learning his trade and applying himself in class.
Rocky was highly regarded by his Pipe trades Instructors from a few years ago and when they spoke of him it was always in glowing terms. He stood out among his peers.
Although I didn’t know Rocky outside the classroom, the time I spent with him in class showed me what a fine young man he was. His classmates, who were also his coworkers, have been devastated by this tragedy and it shows how much Rocky was loved.
Please accept my deepest condolences at this sad time and know that my thoughts and those of his NSCC family are with you and yours.
Sincerely,
Stephen Misner

Rocky was hanging out with me, Jenna and Kaylee at our place in Chezzetcook. We went to Walmart that day and the girls remember standing in the Beef Jerky isle and Rocky said we should have a beef jerky party someday and buy all the flavours! Rocky’s amazing performance in Fiddlers on the Roof was another highlight and favourite memory. Rocky was handsome, kind, loved by all who knew him, big bright smile and great hugs. May your beautiful soul rest in peace. We love you Rocky! Love Tammy, Troy, Jenna (Austin) and Kaylee (Bradley). The Publicover’s!

Rocky, you had a gift
The way you cared for others
It showed in everything you did
Family was your anchor,
Your joy, your greatest treasure.
You never held back your love
And you gave it freely without
Needing to be asked
Your friends were just as dear.
You looked out for them, stood by them
And lifted them when they were low
That was who you were-
Someone who made life better just by being in it.
Your future was bright and full of hope
But what shines the most now is the care you gave
The kindness, the laughter, the love
That will live on in each of us.
Though we all wish for more time
We are grateful for every moment
Every laugh, every memory
Every gift of you
You will always be a son, brother, uncle and nephew
Our Friend, our heart
You are not lost to us
You live in our love, in our stories we share
And in the lives, you have touched
Always our Rocky
Always remembered
Always loved

We planned a biking trip to long lake camp, and we borrowed our neighbor’s bike. Rocky and I, his mom and sister headed to well known spot near Round Lake.
Matty always said, “stay clear of the sawdust pile.”
WELL - as you can probably guess, Rocky and I didn’t exactly follow Matty’s advise.
Let’s just say it took awhile to get out. But Rocky? He was having the time of his life laughing the whole way through.

Rocky was such a kind soul. He was always someone who you could talk to when you were feeling blue. He always knew how to help you feel better. With his infectious laugh. He always knew the right things to say or do whenever you needed it most. I will never forget us goofing off in class and laughing our butts off while doing it. Every room he walked into he would light it up with his smile and personality. My deepest condolences to the family.

Natasha, Mike, Nikita and family.
I am so saddened to hear of the sudden passing of Rocky. He was such a kind soul and had a radiant smile that could brighten any room.
I remember how he was always kind to everyone he met and when we were going to school, my favourite part of the bus ride would be when he got on and would sit next to me. Some days we would joke around with one another, being full of laughter and others consisted of us just talking about life. So many more memories come to my mind that I will forever hold in my heart.
My deepest condolences go out to you and your family in this difficult time.
