Crowell, Thelma Gweneth- 81, Malay Falls, passed away Monday June 23, 2025 in Aberdeen Hospital, New Glasgow. Born in Popes Harbour August 20, 1943 she was a daughter of the late Maxwell & Effie (Gerrard) Daye. In her earlier years she worked at a lobster canning facility. After raising her children Thelma worked as a PCW at the Duncan MacMillan Nursing Home until her retirement. Thelma loved to knit, work in the garden, her fur babies and loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren very much. Her favourite pastime was gardening. Thelma loved to take drives to the sanctuary and listen to the country classics. Survived by children; Stephen (Amanda), Susan (Rod) Callahan, Vicki (Earl) Watt, Victor (Tracy), grandchildren; Marcy (Zack) Stevens, Terri, Cody, Ally, Amber, great grandchildren; Rylee, Jaxon, sisters; Sheila Levy, Shirley (Kenny) Leslie, Sonia (Steve), and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by husband Victor, daughter Sherry in infancy and sister Theresa. By Thelmas request a family only visitation will be held Thursday June 26 from 6-8pm in DS Crowell & Son Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held Friday June 27 at 1pm in St. James United Church, Lochaber Mines Rev. Karen Fillmore officiating, burial to follow in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. James United Church, Lochaber Mines C/O Frances Malay 522 East River Road, Sheet Harbour NS B0J 3B0. My father the late Duncan S. Crowell purchased the business on August 31, 1970 from the late Parker Hamilton. Dad named it Eastern Memorial Funeral Home until a few years later when he changed the name to DS Crowell Funeral Home.
