Obituary of Wayne Reginald Clattenburg

Please share a memory of Wayne to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
It’s with great sadness that we announce the passing of Wayne Reginald Clattenburg on June 12, 2025, in Dartmouth. Wayne was a beloved husband, stepfather, grandfather, brother, and friend. Born on September 12, 1948, Wayne lived a life filled with kindness, humility, and dedication to his loved ones and community. Wayne's legacy is carried on by his cherished family members, including his stepchildren Anne-Marie Lace (Byron), Ian Mason (Tara), and Laura Dole, as well as his grandchildren Nick Lace (Breanna), Melanie Mason (Braydon), Hannah Lace, Connor Dole, Bailee Mason, and Shawn Mason and great granddaughter, Aspyn Lace. He is also survived by his sister Audrey Smith (Allen), along with his niece Krista Smith and her children Kevin and Logan, nephew Robert Smith (Wendy) and their children Takoda, DeSean, Jerica, Jayla, and niece Kimberley Gordon. A man of few words, Wayne was known for his gentle and quiet nature. He lived a simple life, finding joy and contentment in the love he shared with his beloved wife, Marie. Throughout his life, Wayne held various jobs, including working as a woodcutter, a flagger for road construction projects, and in security. However, it was his role as the church sexton at Holy Trinity Anglican Church that truly defined his purpose. For over 40 years, Wayne dedicated himself to caring for the cemetery and church. He assisted with services by ringing bells and preparing the church, maintaining the church and cemetery grounds; taking great pride in ensuring that these spaces were cared for with reverence and respect. Many greater friendships were made over the years through his work at the church. Wayne's selflessness extended beyond his professional duties. He was always ready to lend a helping hand to his neighbors, whether it was mowing their grass or offering a ride. His acts of kindness were testament to his generous spirit and commitment to serving others. In his leisure time, Wayne found joy in simple pleasures, such as playing cards and attending annual fairs in Middle Musquodoboit and Truro. He went to every church supper and community event; his calendar was always full. Wayne was also an animal lover, and his cat Boo was a loyal companion. His love for Marie was evident in everything they did together, including so many road trips within Nova Scotia and to Kenora to spend time with Marie's family. One of his most cherished memories was a trip to Newfoundland with Marie, a tribute to the love and companionship they shared. Wayne's faith was a cornerstone of his life, providing him with strength and solace during difficult times. His devotion to Holy Trinity Anglican Church reflected his deep spiritual connection and the comfort he found within its walls. Wayne was predeceased by his wife Marie, parents, Reginald Clattenburg and Lillian Gray, brother and sister-in-law, Bernard and Charlotte Gordon, brother David Gordon and niece Karen Gordon. The family would like to say a special thank you to Wayne's friend Dena Drysdale. She had been a wonderful friend and support to Wayne. Also, Leonard Lambert was always around to give a helping hand to Wayne. The family appreciates all the love and support from the community. We also wish to thank EHS, Cole Harbour Fire Department and Cole Harbour RCMP for their efforts, kindness and compassion on Wednesday, June 12th. A funeral service to honour Wayne's life will be held on Friday, June 20th, at 1 pm at Holy Trinity Anglican Church, 17326 Nova Scotia Trunk 7, Tangier, followed by burial at Holy Trinity cemetery and a reception at the Tangier & Area Fire Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations in Wayne's memory would be appreciated to Holy Trinity Anglican Church (c/o Lauralee Kennedy, 16 Shoal Bay Drive, Tangier, NS, B0J 3H0). Wayne will be deeply missed by all who have had the privilege of knowing him. Wayne’s kindness and dedication to his loved ones and community will continue to inspire and uplift those who carry his memory in their hearts. May he rest in peace, knowing that his spirit lives on in the love and compassion he shared with everyone.
