Boutilier, Rosemary Alma
Rosemary died suddenly at her home in Mushaboom on Saturday, April 12, 2025.
She was born in 1931, the 6th of 11 children of Reuben and Myrene Power.
Rosemary taught for 37 years, beginning in western Canada and the Yukon. She finished her teaching career at Northbrook Elementary School in Dartmouth, where she taught Grade 6 for more than 20 years.
Upon retirement, she became very involved in the community of Mushaboom, especially demonstrating her faith in Saint Paul’s Anglican Church and the parish of Tangier. Despite numerous health issues, she remained independent and maintained her family home and property for almost 20 years after the death of her husband, Alvin. She enjoyed gardening, entertaining family and friends, fishing, and travelling. She was generous and charitable with her time and money to family, friends, and the community.
She is survived by sisters Linda McKay (MacDonnell) and Frances Webber, brother-in-law David Webber, sisters-in-law Joyce Baker and Helen Gillis, and brother-in-law Foster Boutilier,as well as many nieces and nephews.
Rosemary was predeceased by her parents, her husband, Alvin; her brothers Roderick (Vera) and Clifford (Margaret); her sisters Josephine (John) Fitzgerald, Ellen Mae (Emery) Faulkenham, Gloria (Douglas) Keating, Sylvia (Daniel) Wood, Annette (Cyril) Keating, and Carol (Cecil) Boutilier, her brother-in-law Earl MacDonnell, her nieces Brenda Whalen and Faith Webber, and her nephew John Fitzgerald, Jr. She was also predeceased by many of Alvin’s siblings and their spouses.
Cremation has taken place. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to D.S. Crowell and Son Funeral Home Sheet Harbour. The funeral service will be at Saint Paul’s Anglican Church, Mushaboom, on Monday, April 21st, at 11 a.m. Rev. Debra Burleson officiating, with a reception to follow at the Community Centre.

My father the late Duncan S. Crowell purchased the business on August 31, 1970 from the late Parker Hamilton. Dad named it Eastern Memorial Funeral Home until a few years later when he changed the name to DS Crowell Funeral Home.
