Virginia Anne Peskett 1950-2025
Peskett, Virginia Anne, 75, East Ship Harbour, passed away Tuesday April 8, 2025, in the Halifax Infirmary. Born on February 28, 1950, in Halifax, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Nora (Gallant) Monk. People referred to her as Gin, Ginny, Aunt Gin and Nanny but her proudest name by far was Mom (aka Junya).
To know Gin was to love her, she was small but mighty. Her door was always open to people and animals. She was extremely caring, loving and kind. She would give anyone the shirt off her back. Gin welcomed all with food and drinks. This would often turn into one of those famous kitchen parties where there would be lots of country music. She loved to sing along with the guitar. You would also often see her playing Bingo, crib, or cards.
Gin made lifelong friends working at Moir’s (later Hershey’s) for over 30 years. Those who knew her knew how much she loved her birthday. So much so that the celebration would often be celebrated and talked about for a birthday week. However, it did not compare to her love of Christmas and everything Christmas related. The joy she felt and shared decorating her home and singing Christmas music was infectious. Her favourite spot to sit at home was on her rocking chair in her kitchen while most times talking on the phone. She loved living near the ocean and loved feeding the birds and the feral cats.
She will be sadly missed by her partner of 28 years, Jerry Fahie, her only son, John (Stephanie) Peskett, her three grandchildren: Colby, Tyler and Mitchell, and her fur babies. She is survived by her brother Charles, brother Oswald (Leola), sister-in-law Mable, brother-in-law Ralph, several cousins, nieces, and nephews. Predeceased by her sister Geline (Tom), brother Christopher, sister Juliette (Claude), sister Shirley, sister Sheila (Wendell) and sister-in-law Marilyn.
Memorial service will be held Saturday May 17 at 11:00 a.m. in St Denis Church Hall, 15473 Hwy 7, East Ship Harbour. Burial to follow in the church cemetery. A celebration of life will follow at Royal Canadian Legion Branch 120, East Ship Harbour, 15463 Highway 7. In lieu of flowers donations in Virginia's memory can be made to any animal rescue group.
