Obituary of James Hatch
Please share a memory of James to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
James Hatch, 95 of Truro NS passed away on March 27, 2025, surrounded by family at Eastern Shore Memorial Hospital.
James was born in Maidenhead, UK to George and Florence (nee Rockley) Hatch. He moved to Canada as a young man and worked as a fur assessor with Hudson Bay Company in Fort McMurray. Then returned to England for a short time before the Canadian wilds called him back. James enrolled in the RCAF and served in several roles, finishing his career as an air traffic controller. James and Janet settled in Ottawa to raise their three boys. As a skilled tradesman, capable of turning his hands to many tasks, he found a career with the Nations Capital Public Works department, where he met many interesting people including the Prime Minister while adjusting the heat in his office.
James was always actively involved in his community as a Free Mason and a proficient Amateur Radio operator. He could speak with anyone on any subject. His work as a Freemason and a HAM radio operator are examples of how he worked to help others.
James is survived by sons David (Joanne), Ottawa, Ont.; John (Deb), Comox, BC; and Neal (Sandra) West Quoddy, NS; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. James was predeceased by his parents, wife Janet and brother George, in infancy.
Cremation has taken place. Family committal at a later date, where he will be laid to rest with wife Janet (nee Lawson). No visitation as per James’ wishes.
James will be greatly missed by all that knew him. Thank you to staff of the Palliative Care Units at Colchester East Hants Community Health Center, Eastern Shore Memorial Hospital and Dr. MacDonald. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Palliative Care, ESMH. Online condolences may be directed to www.crowellsfuneralhome.ca
