Obituary of John Charles Cooper
Please share a memory of John to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Cooper, John Charles “Johnnie”- 61, Murphy Cove died Sunday March 9, 2025 in the Dartmouth General Hospital after a brief illness. Born November 1, 1963 in Halifax he was the son of the late Donald & Jean (Leslie) Cooper. Johnnie was a devoted son, and dedicated his life to the wellbeing of his parents. “Every” Friday night he would make the drive down the #7 highway to go home. He would pick up his mother and head to Bingo in Mushaboom. Sunday he would head back to the city to go back to work. Johnnie graduated from Acadia University, where he lived his best life and proudly wore his “Axe” ring. Johnnie was fortunate to work in the road construction profession which he loved. He retired from Basin Contracting, Elmsdale as a safety officer after 33 years. Basin Contracting was Johnnie’s second family. He established lifelong friends and acquaintances that he held very dear to his heart. Johnnie was a simple man that enjoyed simple pleasures. He enjoyed bingo nights on Sunday with his “Sissy” (Jackie), crib and 45 card games at every hall on the Eastern Shore. He enjoyed church suppers and he could never get enough of watching nature shows. Swimming in the ocean was his happy place. He was like a seal and he would swim around for hours at a time. If there was a sandy beach, that’s where you could find him. Looking for treasures and taking long walks. Anyone who knew Johnnie knew he loved a good home cooked meal. He enjoyed eating at restaurants as well, his cell contact list can attest to that (LOL). He would always say sugar was one of his favourite food groups. Spending time with family gave him the most happiness. He always looked forward to the next Leslie family reunion, he loved his cousins with all his heart. Survived by sister Jacqueline “Jackie” (Roger) Harmon, Dartmouth, many aunts, uncles and cousins. There will be no visitation or funeral at Johnnies request. Burial will be held at a later date. Special thanks to the Dartmouth General Hospital ICU team. Where the dedicated nurses, doctors, surgeons and the complete team showed exceptional care and compassion for my brother for 3 weeks. His family will be forever grateful. Also to DS Crowell & Son Funeral Home for their compassion and guidance.
