Owen, Wade Arthur Age 65, Sheet Harbour. October 24, 1959 February 8, 2025. With profound sadness and broken hearts we announce the death of husband, Dad and Grampie, surrounded by love of family, on Saturday, February 8, 2025 in Harbourview Lodge, Sheet Harbour. His kindness, love of everyone he interacted with, easygoing spirit and charming smile made Wade the beautiful person he was. Wade was born in Sheet Harbour on October 24, 1959 to Dag and Evelyn (Newcombe) Owen. Raised in a loving home with his brother and sister, within the small community on the Eastern Shore,. Wade, a small town boy, left home for Dartmouth to attend the Dartmouth Regional Vocational School, where he trained in plumbing. However, city life never suited him, and he soon returned to Sheet Harbour for work. Wade’s career as a plumber, maintenance worker, and jack of all trades was defined by dedication and hard work. He spent 35 years at Eastern Shore Memorial Hospital/Duncan MacMillan Nursing Home, working the evening shift and forming strong connections with both coworkers and residents. Known for his reliability, strong work ethic, and empathy, Wade often expressed his kindness with humor and a generous offering of food to anyone in need. A cherished member of his community, he volunteered his time mowing the church cemeteries and fixing plumbing issues, often accepting homemade pies as payment. Wade lived his life in the community he loved. Wade was a man of many passions and hobbies. Whether it was fishing, hunting, gardening, scuba diving, playing cards or four wheeling, Wade enjoyed every moment of life. He had a special connection with nature, spending most of his time outdoors, whether it was trapping, gathering firewood, or taking his dogs on adventures. Wade wore out four wheeler handle grips with his trips back the woods and could be found at “the camp” sharing abundance of food and telling stories about his recent catch. He was also an avid sportsman, excelling in fastball as a shortstop and second baseman and playing in tournaments at all levels where he often received most sportsman for the tournament. His love for hockey, especially as a lifelong Montreal Canadiens fan, was well known, and he never missed an opportunity to play or watch the game. Wade was a true lover of country music, although he would be the first to admit he wasn’t the best singer or dancer. In the summers you could find him at the beach or “up the sandpit” swimming where he once saved a classmates’ life from drowning, receiving The Royal Canadian Humane Association Medal. Wade met and married the love of his life, Myrene, in 1983. Together they built a beautiful home, only moving two doors down from his parent’s. They opened their home to family and friends where you could find Wade offering you a full meal and beverage before your shoes were even off. His warmth, kindness, and genuine nature made him a treasured friend to many. His close friends were like family and he was always lending a hand. Wade's deep love for his family was the foundation behind everything he did, and his greatest joy came from his two children. Whether it was pulling a boat tube, fishing, or taking trips back to the camp, Wade eagerly shared his passions not only with his children but also with his nieces, nephews, and their friends. As he grew older, Wade was fortunate to embrace the role of Grampie, surrounded by four wonderful grandchildren, and took great delight in being a part of their lives. He leaves a lasting legacy of love, happiness, and laughter. Wade will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and everyone who had the privilege and honor of knowing, loving and cherishing him. Wade is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Myrene Keating Owen, children Danielle (Jared) Vokey, Chezzetcook and Michael (Kate) Owen, Slave Lake; grandchildren, Peyton and Jake Vokey, Quinn and Andrew Owen; brother, Dereck (Denise) Owen, sister, Denise (Roger) MacDonald; brother in laws, Eugene Webber, Seldon (Debbie) Keating, Grant (Lee) Keating, Doug (Cathy) Keating and Cyril (Susan) Keating; sister in laws, Sheila (Joey) Martin and Becky (Tom) Jessome; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Wade was predeceased by his parents Elwood Ernest Arthur and Evelyn (Newcombe) Owen; father-in-law Douglas Keating; mother-in-law Gloria (Power) Keating; and sister in law Faith Webber.
