Devin, we remember you from the time you were a tiny boy. Your smile was contagious; your energy, boundless. I remember the times you and your family would come on the boat with us. We would make our way to an island where you and your sister would run in the sand, and spend time with the other kids who travelled with us. Yes, you would venture into the freezing cold water because that is what kids did. You would come to our parties with your Mom and Dad and hang out with the other kids who were there. You always had fun wherever you went. Whenever we would see you, we were greeted with a smile. We will always remember you, Devin. You were an important part in the lives of so many. Devin an I were best friends from grade 7 to after grade 12 We had so many good times together I can't even decide what memory to pick. One of our good times were when me you an Blake went back to the camp for the night, I swear we laughed for 4 hours straight. I have so many memories of Devin, he was a kind respectful and caring person. One memory that stands out was two Christmas ago we all came together and stayed the night at our place on Christmas Eve, Alayah was only one month old at the time. She was fussy and was having trouble sleeping, Devin stayed out in the living room with her and was rocking her back and forth on her stomach using his arm. He loved her so much and was so proud to be her father. He will be missed and remembered by all that knew him.

I will never forget the nights of those kitchen dance parties, everyone gathered with the laughter flowing. Devin’s little body wiggling to Outcast blasting “Hey Ya” it was his favourite song at the time. The way he smiled with his entire face and the devious twinkle in those blue eyes. Devin and I were best friends since the day we met when I moved home to Sheet Harbour. Over the 13 years I've known Devin him and I had many laughs, many good times and have gotten into trouble many, many times together, with our parents, girlfriends and even at times our friendship was tested to its breaking point, but in the end I always saw you as my equal, as my friend, as my brother. Out of all the crazy things we did together and out of all the good times and bad that I can remember, nothing sticks out in my mind more than the day I met your beautiful Daughter Alayah. Over the years growing up we always randomly talked about "hey man do you think you'll want kids someday?" The answer was always YES, but there was always a follow up thoughts, "what if I'm a bad father?" Devin my dear friend from the day I saw him with his daughter there was never a thought in my head doubting your ability to be a great father, your family was your world and it was shown by the way your eyes opened up and the way your smile widened every time you spoke about them. My favorite memory of you Devin is seeing my old friend who I've seen grow from an irresponsible 10 year old, into a caring, loving, devoted Father to his girls, a father one day I plan to look up to when I have a family of my own. Porsha I apologize I didn’t get to meet you yesterday before I left the reception. But I did meet your beautiful daughter Alayah. Devin was my godbrother and he always had a smile and could make anyone laugh. He reminded me of his grandfather Mickey. I do believe my most recent memory of him would be the first time I had my dad’s brand new truck out. I backed it into one of those parking lot poles. Only damaged the tailgate so I felt that wasn’t that bad. But I knew it was still expensive and I was bawling trying to park it. It felt like forever I was pulling it ahead and not getting in the lines. At that point I ended up deciding that taking two parking spots was ok!! Devin was in the parking lot and I don’t think he even knew it was me at first. But he came over asked if I was having trouble and offered to park it in one. And I realized who he was. We chatted for a few minutes after he got the truck parked properly. To this day I still struggle to park it.

Our memories of Devin are from when he was younger and in Judo or while our children played together. One of my favourite memories is when he was reading to Emily at their camp. He was just so sweet. In Judo, he was very quick to learn new moves and it took him no time to get his opponent to the mat and pin them. We were always so amazed at how quick his matches were. We will always remember him as being so full of energy, always having a smile on his face and how he was so kind to everyone. To the family, please know that our hearts are with you. One of my earliest memories of Devin was when I was opening up a bank account for him, when I asked him what he was saving his money for, his big blue eyes lit up as he told me he was saving up for a Lamborghini. Within the next few years Devin and my son Blake were in school together and became close friends. Lots of memories from rides to cadets to coming home from work to the boys all tattooed from Devin’s new tattoo gun to all the times Devin stopped in to visit with Blake. One of last memories of Devin was a week after Alayha was born and seeing him with his new baby girl and how in love he was, so proud of his new little daughter. The last time I seen Devin he was with his grandmother out grocery shopping, he was quick to come over and chat, as he always was so friendly. What stood out to me the most about Devin throughout the years was how polite and respectful he was and most recently what a wonderful daddy he was to Alayha. Rest easy Devin… you will be missed but not forgotten. Thank you for being such a great friend to Blake. To Devin’s family and friends, May the constant love of caring friends soften your sadness. Rest Easy Devin you’ll be missed by everyone and anybody who got to spend time with you. We were in the same class for 7 years and you were always the light of the classroom. You were always a class favourite for all our teachers you’d tease them and make jokes but you always did your work and they all always admired you. You were a great classmate to have I remember a few times in our math class with Mr. Evely we we played card games a lot and you would almost always win but if not you’d jokingly ask if the winner cheated lol. Anything you ever put your mind too you always achieved especially with any sports you excelled in gym and also any teams you were apart of. The last time I seen Devin and Porsha was a few months before their beautiful daughter had arrived and they were both so happy and excited for her arrival, at that time they weren’t sure on names so Devin was throwing out a few one being Alayah and when saying this he had the biggest smile I could just tell they’d be the best parents to her. Although I didn’t physically get to see Devin with his daughter you could see the amount of love and honour he had to be her father, although Dev won’t get to see her grow up everyone will always make sure she knows how much he thought of Alayah and all the love he had for her. My thoughts and prayers go to his family, Dana ,Sheila and his grandmother Marg,at this very difficult time. Especially to Porsha, Alayah he loved you both so much if you need anything I’ll be here big hugs.

I was Devin's Plumbing Instructor when he attended NSCCs Pathways Program. From the moment I met him I knew he was going to be one of my favorite's. He was always the first person to volunteer to help out with anything I needed. Devin came to class every day with a huge smile on his face and a new photo to show me. At first his photos we all about his puppy and new truck. Once his beautiful daughter was born his smile got even bigger ( I never knew that was even possible). Every day he showed the class a new picture of his little family and told us a story or two. He could not have been more proud of all of you. All though he has left you all too soon please know that he was an incredible person. Devin will never be forgotten and will always have a special place in my heart. Ronda

The first time I took Devin on my Harley he was excited but scared. I think he was only around 10. As I'm riding I can see him in my side mirror and he forgot to close his mouth and his cheeks are full of air and blow up. You had a spirit that was free, fearless and loving. Love u bud
